Tommy Robinson was found guilty on Wednesday, 28 October, of two counts of harassment causing fear of violence after a jury at Southwark Crown Court failed to agree unanimously and returned a majority verdict of 10 to two. The jury had deliberated for 11 hours and 25 minutes over two days. (The Telegraph, 28 October 2026)

The 43-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was granted bail and will be sentenced at the same court on 16 December. (BBC News, 28 October 2026) He had denied both charges.

What the case was about

The charges arose from August 2024. After the Southport murders, the Daily Mail and Mail Online published articles and photographs of Mr Robinson on a family holiday in Cyprus while riots broke out in England, under the front-page headline “Stoking race riots from his sunbed”. (BBC News)

The prosecution, led by Ben Holt, told the jury that Mr Robinson then used “bully-boy, intimidatory tactics” against freelance reporter Andrew Young and Daily Mail editor Jacob Dirnhuber. The court heard that he hired private investigators to photograph their home addresses, posted pictures online, sent direct messages and told Mr Young in a phone call on 5 August 2024: “I’m coming to get you.” The journalists said they left home or hired security. Tommy’s side of the story

Mr Robinson told the jury he had “panicked” and was “scared” when the paper published the story, because he believed it had “endangered” his family by revealing they were staying at a hotel near Ayia Napa. He said the paper had also published a photograph of his former wife, which he said put her at risk. (BBC News; The Guardian)

He admitted hiring investigators to “put pressure on” the journalists but said he did not know they were in fear. “That wasn’t my intention at all,” he told the court. “It was an attempt to bring the Daily Mail to the table.” He wept in the witness box as he spoke about his children. (BBC News) The jury rejected his defence.

Mr Robinson attended court every day with a large number of supporters. (The Guardian) Supporters in the public gallery reacted with disappointment as the verdicts were read out. Before the trial, he had said on X that Elon Musk was paying his legal fees. (The Telegraph)

What Tommy said after the verdict

At 16:34 GMT, Mr Robinson posted on X: “I am not allowed to give my opinion if I do I will be automatically imprisoned. I will be sentenced on December 16th at Southwark crown court. Thank you to everyone for the love & support. NO SURRENDER.” (Tommy Robinson on X, 28 October 2026)

Earlier, at 12:15 GMT, his account told followers that the judge had said he would accept a majority verdict of 11-1 or 10-2 because the jury had not reached a unanimous decision. (Tommy Robinson on X)

The reaction

Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe, the MP for Great Yarmouth, posted at 14:50 GMT: “Tommy Robinson has been found guilty – it is my view that the system has, again, treated him unfairly. We live in dark times.” (Rupert Lowe on X) Later, at 17:07 GMT, he aimed at Nigel Farage: “Farage is wrong. I entirely disagree with the disgraceful way the establishment has treated Tommy Robinson for a very long time.” (Rupert Lowe on X)

Mr Farage has not posted about the verdict on X. Clips of his reaction are circulating online, but users are quoting his words in different ways. BBN has not been able to verify exactly what he said, so we are not quoting it. On Tuesday, he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that he “wouldn’t ban anybody for liking someone like Tommy Robinson”. He added that it “wouldn’t be my cup of tea” and that he did not “want us to get into a world of cancel culture”. (Politico, 27 October 2026) Reform UK, Robert Jenrick and Elon Musk had not posted about the verdict on X by 17:45 GMT.

The CPS said Mr Robinson had “weaponised social media”. The Metropolitan Police said there were “legitimate and established routes” for complaints about the media. The Daily Mail said it stood by its journalists. (The Guardian; BBC News)

Mr Justice Cavanagh said he would consider all options at sentencing, including custody, either immediate or suspended. The offence carries a maximum of 10 years. (The Guardian)

Verdict

This is opinion. A jury has spoken, and this site respects that a jury of 12 citizens heard the evidence. Mr Robinson has said he cannot comment while the case awaits sentence, and we will not second-guess the jury either. But it is fair to ask wider questions. Two of the 12 jurors did not agree. Supporters are asking why a man who said he panicked after a national paper revealed where his children were staying ended up in the dock, while so many ordinary Britons feel the system looks the other way elsewhere. That is why the phrase “two-tier justice” will not go away. Rupert Lowe said it plainly. Nigel Farage, facing pressure on his right, has refused to cancel candidates for liking a post. The establishment should note that Mr Robinson’s support did not shrink this week. It turned up at court every single day.

Have your say

I am not surprised, the MSM have thrown every bit of dirt and lies about TR making him sound like a extremist far right thug…………not until you watch his video’s his documentaries, read about his history, his activism, his compassion, his work on grooming gangs, his aid to dis advantaged people until you know him not what the msm have painted him to be in their opinion….. so i am not surprised the Jury is probably opinionated about him pre and during and after, bias and ignorant all because he is tainted

Rather unfortunate that Tommy was so forthright in his so-called ‘threats’ to them, but that is the man : forthright . . .AND HONEST ! But let’s face it, honesty and politics have never really got on together, have they ? The only real THREAT that this man represents is a threat to a gradual, Globalist take-over of this country, facilitated by successive ‘governments’ and those political parasites, contained within them, hell-bent on our compliance with the Globalist agenda. They will try every trick in the book to derail or destroy Tommy, as they have, and are still doing so, with both Farage and Trump. . . in fact, anyone who gets in their way, these days, travels a very dangerous road.
