Nearly 5,000 migrants have gone missing before their asylum claims were processed over a six-year period, with more than 3,000 still unaccounted for, according to figures obtained by The Sun.
Data from UK Immigration Enforcement’s live operational database shows that 4,838 people were recorded as absconders between January 2020 and December 2025. Freedom of information figures reveal that only around a third of those individuals were subsequently located by authorities.
The total left 3,158 people whose whereabouts remained completely unknown as of January. The recorded cases include asylum seekers who escaped from ports or immigration detention centres, as well as individuals on immigration bail who stopped complying with mandatory reporting rules.
Individuals are officially designated as absconders only after official attempts to contact them have been exhausted. At that operational stage, authorities cannot verify whether those individuals remain undetected inside Britain or have departed the country entirely.

Responding to the findings, a Home Office spokesperson stated that individuals who possess no legal basis to remain in the United Kingdom should face deportation, adding that the government remains committed to enforcing immigration rules.
The ongoing data transparency questions highlight wider scrutiny over how effectively immigration enforcement tracks applicants while claims are awaiting final determination.

I can see Cilla Black pulling back the screen and saying “Surprise Suprise” and the 5000 illegal migrants have left the studio……. It is the Black Market they are attracted to cash in hand loadsa money, lods of crime they can get away with, no need for money to buy food just shoplift…. surprised NO
