Reform migrant housing prosecution plan slammed

Reform UK’s plan to prosecute companies whose migrant residents commit violent offences has been branded “bizarre” by former Conservative immigration minister Kevin Foster, according to GB News reports. The policy proposal follows announcements made during a visit to Oxfordshire.

Nigel Farage’s party has pledged to establish a police-led task force to investigate private contractors providing accommodation for asylum seekers, with bosses facing criminal punishment if residents harm locals. Reform UK home affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf announced the policy on Saturday during a visit to Piddington, where 1,250 asylum seekers are expected to be housed.

Discussing the policy on GB News, former immigration minister Kevin Foster conceded there was some precedent for holding landlords responsible for criminal activity on their premises. However, he questioned how Reform’s proposal would function when companies are housing migrants directly at the Government’s request.

Mr Foster highlighted the use of former military sites for asylum accommodation, pointing out the administrative contradictions involved in state-backed contracts. He noted that contractors would face unique legal jeopardy for fulfilling official arrangements.

While supporting the principle of converting former military bases into secure accommodation, Mr Foster warned that significant operational work would be required.
