Should ITV face police scrutiny over the Reform sting?

Reform UK has reported ITV, its board and its undercover reporters to the police after a covert sting aimed at the party, with home affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf confirming the complaint and stating that some of the alleged offences carry prison terms of up to ten years.
“Reform UK has reported ITV, its board, and its undercover reporters to the police,” Mr Yusuf wrote. “Some of the crimes carry up to 10 years in prison. They forged a passport. They directly interfered in elections and almost certainly altered the results, being paid to ‘canvass’ for Reform in crucial wards we lost by a few dozen votes. They lied to a veteran about their service and left him ‘violated’. This is unprecedented. The police are now involved. Scrutiny of political parties is one thing. But anyone breaking the law to try and ruin the lives of Reform’s staff, members or volunteers will be reported to the police and pursued relentlessly in the courts.”
ITV has yet to respond to the announcement. The broadcaster’s operation used secret recordings of Reform councillors and captured remarks that appeared to back capital punishment for grooming gang offenders.
Adam Parkins, a Reform councillor in Hounslow, west London, allegedly told an undercover ITV reporter that he would “quite happily do Sunday morning Rose Garden executions of f*****g rape gangs”. He is said to have added: “Give me a f****** pistol, and I’ll walk behind them and go ‘boom, boom, boom’… I would do that without f****** thinking for a second about it, and I’d go up and have my coffee.” David Kerr, a Reform councillor in the same borough, is said to have agreed, saying he could cut offending if he could “line up a few thousand grooming gang perpetrators and machine gun them down”.
Britain elects its own MPs and runs its own parties under its own law. Covert operations that forge documents, meddle in local contests and deceive veterans cross a line that no newsroom should treat as routine. Voters can judge politicians; they should not have results tilted by paid outsiders posing as helpers.
Party response and earlier remarks
After the ITV News report, a Reform spokesman told GB News that “no further action will be taken” against the pair. “Where members, activists and councillors have clearly behaved inappropriately, investigations have commenced. In some cases, there have been suspensions, and due process must be followed. Cllrs Parkins and Kerr were giving their own personal opinions on the death penalty for members of child rape gangs in what they believed was a private conversation. We will not be taking further action against them.”
The ITV report landed days after Nigel Farage’s party stated it has “no room for racism” following further allegations that Reform members had made unsavoury comments. In the same coverage, party activist Jason Powell reportedly said “you cannot be a Muslim and British”, describing it as “like oil and water”. Mr Powell has since been suspended from party membership while Reform carries out an internal investigation.
Reform’s complaint puts the focus back on methods rather than solely on the recorded talk. Yusuf’s account centres on a forged passport, paid canvassing in tight wards, and the treatment of a veteran. Those are concrete allegations for the police to examine, not abstract rows about tone.
ITV’s silence leaves the public with one side of the ledger fully stated and the other empty. The party has drawn a hard distinction between personal views aired in what the councillors thought was private and any proven breach of the law by outsiders. That distinction matters if elections are to stay clean and if volunteers are not to be treated as fair game for deception.
