Small Boat Migrant Jailed For Illegal Entry Now Housed In Corby

CORBY — A Palestinian migrant jailed for entering Britain illegally on a small boat is facing deportation after being found living in taxpayer-funded accommodation in Corby.

Mosab Abdulkarim Al-Gassas, also known as Abu Wadee, 34, arrived on the Kent coast in March 2025 after paying £1,300 for a dinghy crossing, according to the Daily Express.

He was jailed for nine months for attempting to enter the country without leave or valid entry clearance.

He was initially released in June after serving 40% of his sentence under the Government’s early release scheme, and was later recalled for breaching licence conditions, the British Bulletin reports.

Since December, he has been living in a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) in Corby with three other migrants, the Scottish Sun reports. The Sun says the house is valued at £157,000 and is part of the Home Office dispersal scheme.

Wadee prompted a security alert after live-streaming his Channel crossing. Historic social media posts linked to him included antisemitic statements and support for Hamas.

When approached by the Northamptonshire Telegraph, he said he was a member of the “tyre-burning unit” but claimed that was eight years ago. He said he no longer supports Hamas and wants to stay in Corby.

Labour MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire Lee Barron said he was “appalled” by Wadee’s presence and vowed to contact the Home Secretary to seek his immediate deportation, as reported by the Express and The Sun.

UPDATE: The Sun reports Wadee has now been removed from the taxpayer-funded house. Police attended the property and he left in a taxi with the help of a housing officer. The Home Office is understood to be working to remove him from the country.
