Reform UK is set to announce a record-breaking increase to the income tax personal allowance to £15,000, as Robert Jenrick outlines the policy at the party’s national conference. According to GB News, the plan forms a core pillar of the party’s first Budget within 100 days in government.
Reform UK’s economic spokesman Robert Jenrick is expected to unveil the historic threshold change, which would raise the current £12,570 limit to £15,000. Party officials report that the measure represents the single largest increase to the tax-free allowance in history, saving the majority of taxpayers approximately £500 a year.
The proposed policy aims to tackle the ongoing impact of fiscal drag caused by years of freezes on the personal allowance. According to party estimates, the change would lift millions of low-income earners out of paying income tax entirely while ensuring that the state pension remains outside the tax system.
The Worker-First Commitment
Addressing party members in Birmingham, Mr Jenrick is due to set out his overarching economic mission:
As chancellor, I will wake each morning with one purpose. To make Britain a better place to be a worker than it was the day before.
— Robert Jenrick, Economic Spokesman, GB News
He is also expected to confirm the timeline for the implementation:
In the first hundred days of a Reform government, in our first Budget, we will raise the tax-free personal allowance from £12,570 to £15,000.
— Robert Jenrick, Economic Spokesman, GB News
Challenging Government Spending
- Proposed increase of personal allowance from £12,570 to £15,000
- Estimated savings of around £500 a year for the majority of taxpayers
- Designed to protect the state pension from entering the income tax system
- Positioned as an alternative to public spending on welfare and foreign aid
Mr Jenrick will draw a sharp line between public expenditure and tax relief for working households, stating: “The hard choice for Burnham and for us is exactly the same. It’s either welfare waste, foreign aid and migrants — or the British worker. We choose the worker.”
Further details on how the party plans to balance the wider economic package are expected as the conference continues.
