Housing asylum seekers at a former North Yorkshire RAF base will cost taxpayers at least £500 a night per person, according to local protesters. GB News reveals that a campaign group has calculated the staggering figures behind the controversial plan to house 1,200 migrants in Linton-on-Ouse.
The Staggering Price Tag Revealed
Campaigners rallying against the Government’s migrant camp plans have calculated that each guest at the former military base will cost an extraordinary £500 a night. The figures suggest the total bill for the site will reach roughly £400m over a three-year period.
The proposals were initially announced earlier this year as part of a wider government strategy aimed at closing all asylum hotels by 2029. However, locals argue the scale and expense of the Linton-on-Ouse project defy common sense.
Local Backlash Over Rural Base
Residents in North Yorkshire have fiercely opposed transforming the decommissioned RAF base into a large-scale asylum accommodation centre. Campaigners point out that the financial outlay dwarfs standard housing costs and places severe strain on rural infrastructure.
- £500 a night estimated cost per asylum seeker at the camp
- 1,200 migrants scheduled to be housed at the Linton-on-Ouse base
- £400m projected total cost over a three-year period
- Plans part of the Government’s wider drive to close asylum hotels by 2029
- Local campaign group leading opposition against the North Yorkshire scheme
Questions Over Value for Money
The revelation has sparked intense scrutiny over how public money is being allocated to tackle the ongoing migrant accommodation crisis. Critics argue that pouring hundreds of millions into rural military site conversions represents poor value for taxpayers.
As opposition grows, the Government faces mounting pressure to justify the expenditure as it attempts to phase out the use of commercial hotels across the country.
Taxpayers are footing an extortionate bill for a rural camp scheme that locals warn is entirely unsustainable.

We are still paying for the hotels even after they have been vacated. How on earth can anyone cost £500/night in an ex army camp? £50 per person would be too much. Plus it ought to only be a temporary situation until we can deport the lot. They are not fleeing wars they are all economic migrants with the potential to be an invading army since we don’t know anything about them. Plus they could be bringing in all manner of diseases that could spread to the rest of the country and cost us even more money to cure. 😡😡😡
