Reform UK MP Danny Kruger has launched a scathing attack on the “dysfunction” at the heart of Whitehall, claiming that unelected bureaucrats, not politicians, truly run the country. He argues that this “bloated beast” of a system, rooted in the Blair era, has stripped power from the people and made genuine change impossible.
“Nothing Actually Changes”
Speaking to GB News, Reform UK’s “preparing for power tsar” Danny Kruger highlighted a widespread public frustration. He stated: “I think the public recognise there’s a dysfunction in Government itself.” Kruger added that despite changing ministers and voting for different parties, “nothing actually changes. In fact, things get worse,” according to GB News reporting.
Mr Kruger contended that the real power lies elsewhere, not with elected officials. He told GB News that “the real Government, the people who actually run the country, aren’t the elected politicians at the moment.” This, he argued, is a direct result of reforms from the Blair era, which transferred numerous government functions to independent bodies and quangos.
The Bloated Cabinet Office
As a prime example of state expansion, Mr Kruger pointed to the Cabinet Office. He explained that it was “created in the First World War to try and bring some cohesion to Government,” but has since become “this great bloated beast that we have at the moment, which we’ve pledged to get rid of.”
According to the Reform MP, the Cabinet Office employed only a few hundred staff in 1997. Today, it has ballooned to 11,000 people “all sitting at the centre, second guessing what departments do,” as reported by GB News. Kruger argued that the solution isn’t new thinking, but a return to established constitutional principles.
- Elected politicians no longer truly run the country.
- Power has shifted to unelected independent bodies and quangos.
- The Cabinet Office has grown from hundreds to 11,000 staff since 1997.
- This dysfunction is rooted in reforms from the Blair era.
- Reform UK pledges to dismantle the “bloated beast” of the Cabinet Office.
- The solution is to restore parliamentary sovereignty and ministerial accountability.
What This Means for Britain
This means that despite your vote, the power to make real decisions about your country is being held by unelected officials and quangos, not the people you chose.
The expansion of bodies like the Cabinet Office means more bureaucracy and less accountability, costing taxpayers money while delivering little in the way of tangible change for ordinary families.
When politicians are unable to implement the will of the people, it undermines the very foundations of British democracy and makes you feel ignored and let down.
The call for restoring parliamentary sovereignty means bringing power back to Westminster, where elected representatives can be held directly responsible for their actions and decisions.
For Reform UK, this is about taking back control from the unelected establishment and ensuring that the government truly serves the interests of the British people, not its own internal bureaucracy.
Share if you believe elected politicians, not unelected bureaucrats, should run Britain.

This is because the people we are ALLOWED to elect ( not chosen by us to stand for election but chosen by the ‘parties’ ) have little or NO IDEA of how to run a country, and are almost completely dependent upon ‘civil servants’ to advise and direct them.
Imagine teachers in a classroom, with NO TRAINING, being advised and instructed by outside, non-accountable agencies in how to teach different subjects !
WE NEED THIS COUNTRY TO BE RUN AS A BUSINESS with experienced, trained people who have stood for election based on their suitability for the job, rather than any political party and, of course, their ‘ability’ to lie and deceive !
WE’RE SICK OF THE ‘SAME-OLD, SAME-OLD’ !
TIME FOR A CHANGE !
I couldn’t agree more, the reason Great Britain became so, was our leadership, back in the day, served ‘apprenticeships’ in industry, commerce, the forces and as overseas representatives of one sort or another. They not only learned on the job, about whatever the enterprise was, but how to deal with people and get the best out of them, before entering politics. It’s become fashionable from within the leftist wreckers, to sow hatred, to denigrate and even destroy these ‘building blocks’ to the many successful ventutes UK PLC undertook over many decades, with its twaddle and it has replaced it with a vacuum which they want the EUseless dictatorship to fill, so they can deny any responsibility or leadership for anything at all.
