Former Reform UK Deputy Leader Ben Habib has announced he will shut down his Advance UK party, founded just one year ago, to avoid creating “confusion” on the right of British politics. The move comes as another new party, Restore Britain, emerges.
Advance UK Steps Back
Ben Habib, who previously served as Deputy Leader of Reform UK, launched Advance UK in June 2025. Now, after only a year, he has informed party members of his decision to cease operations, as reported by Guido Fawkes.
Habib stated that the emergence of Restore Britain, a party he believes is “very, very similar to Advance UK,” makes it responsible for his party to “take a step back.” He emphasised the need to avoid “confusing the landscape” on the right of British politics.
Avoiding Division
Habib explained his rationale to party members, saying, “Now is not the time for us to be standing in elections against Reform, against Restore… and just confusing the landscape.” This decision aims to consolidate efforts rather than fragmenting the vote further.
Members will now decide whether to formally wind up Advance UK or “merge” with the ‘Great British PAC’ advocacy group. Habib claims this group “will continue to do what Advance UK was doing” after the party deregisters from the Electoral Commission.
What This Means for Britain
This development highlights the ongoing struggle to unite various factions on the right of British politics, particularly those advocating for more robust Brexit and sovereignty policies.
For ordinary voters, this could mean less choice on the ballot paper but potentially a clearer message from a more consolidated opposition to the establishment parties.
The decision by Advance UK to step aside suggests a recognition that a divided right-wing vote ultimately benefits the political establishment, which many feel has betrayed Britain.
It also indicates a strategic shift among some figures to focus on broader advocacy rather than direct electoral challenges, aiming to build pressure on existing parties.
Meanwhile, Reform UK donor Christopher Harborne is reportedly suing Habib for defamation over comments made about his relationship with Nigel Farage, adding another layer to the complex dynamics within this political space.
