The Labour government’s Home Office is spending a staggering £1.259 million to rent new rigid hull inflatable boats (RIBs) for a year, with options to extend, as the Channel migrant crisis shows no signs of slowing down. This comes as nearly 1,000 migrants arrived from France over just one bank holiday weekend, according to the Daily Mail.
Millions Spent, Crisis Continues
Despite promises from Sir Keir Starmer to “smash the gangs” and end the Channel crossings, the Home Office is pouring millions into managing the ongoing crisis. The £1.259 million deal, reported by the Daily Mail, is for crewed RIBs, including accommodation and food for the crews working round-the-clock shifts.
This new expenditure is on top of a separate £1.6 million three-year deal to repair existing RIBs and tactical boats. Just last month, the Labour government also hired four larger catamarans at a cost of £30 million over three years, specifically to pick up migrants attempting to cross the Channel.
What the New Boats Are For
The new RIBs are intended to support the larger catamarans, especially as improved weather leads to an increase in crossings. Contract details, seen by the Daily Mail, reveal these 8.5m crafts must carry at least 20 “recovered casualties” to larger search and rescue vessels, or even return them to land.
Another function of these vessels is to track migrant boats that refuse to stop, requiring them to maintain a steady 20 knots with bursts up to 40 knots. The Daily Mail highlighted that almost 1,000 migrants arrived from France over a recent bank holiday weekend alone, underscoring the scale of the problem.
- Home Office spending £1.259 million to rent new RIBs for a year.
- Option to extend the rental for a further 24 months.
- £1.6 million three-year deal for repairs to existing boats.
- £30 million spent on four new catamarans last month.
- New RIBs must carry at least 20 “recovered casualties” from the water.
- Almost 1,000 migrants arrived over a single bank holiday weekend.
What This Means for Britain
This massive spending means your taxes are being used to manage, rather than stop, the illegal Channel crossings. Hard-working British families are footing the bill for a crisis that shows no signs of ending under the current government.
The Labour government’s strategy appears to be one of accommodation, not deterrence, as more boats are acquired to ferry migrants to our shores. This approach does nothing to “smash the gangs” as Sir Keir Starmer promised, but instead creates a more efficient system for processing arrivals.
With 200,000 illegal Channel arrivals since the crisis began eight years ago, and only 7,612 deportations under the current government, the system is clearly failing. This continued influx places immense strain on public services like the NHS and housing, which are already struggling to cope.
The focus on safely recovering migrants rather than preventing them from making the journey sends the wrong message to criminal gangs. It signals that Britain’s borders remain open, despite political rhetoric to the contrary.
Ordinary British people are left wondering when their government will truly take back control of our borders. The financial burden of this failure falls directly on your shoulders, while the political class continues to manage the symptoms rather than cure the disease.
Share if you believe our government should stop the boats, not just buy more of them.

Like many, I’m so ANGRY reading about this invasion force, day after day, week in, week out, year upon year. BUT if anyone dares to say anything about it, or God forbid they DO SOMETHING, they are branded ‘racist’ or some other supposedly negative societal slur by the mentally challenged and deranged Leftwaffe Press or commentariat!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Its obvious they need more boats to facilitate the invasion. What would happen if Britain had no rescue boats, what would the invaders do then?
