Starmer Secretly Pushed for Diplomatic Job for Second Disgraced Peer Lord Doyle, Robbins Reveals

Sir Olly Robbins has dropped another bombshell at the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, revealing that Sir Keir Starmer lobbied the Foreign Office to find an ambassadorship for his disgraced former spin doctor Lord Doyle – and ordered officials not to tell then-Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

Starmer Pushed for Doyle Job in Secret

Sir Olly said in March 2025 he was contacted by No 10 about finding a head of mission role for Lord Doyle. He was under “strict instruction” not to discuss it with David Lammy. Robbins said he found the request “uncomfortable” and struggled to justify it while making senior diplomats redundant.

Doyle Later Suspended Over Paedophile Links

Lord Doyle was suspended from Labour after it emerged he had campaigned for a convicted paedophile councillor. Starmer later made him a peer instead of giving him a diplomatic posting. Robbins said the request was “serious enough” that No 10’s private office rang the head of the diplomatic service directly.
