Mandelson Paid Millions by Chinese Military-Linked Firm in Explosive New Twist to Vetting Scandal

In a shocking new twist to the Mandelson vetting scandal, Lord Peter Mandelson’s lobbying firm Global Counsel received £2.24 million from WuXi AppTec, a Chinese biotechnology firm named by the US government as a “company of concern” with links to the Chinese military and human rights abuses in Xinjiang.

WuXi AppTec Top Client of Mandelson’s Firm

The Shanghai-listed company paid £2.24 million to Global Counsel and topped the list of “biggest clients by revenue”, senior executives confirmed. WuXi AppTec was one of five firms targeted by the US Biosecure Act, which banned federal agencies from buying its equipment due to national security risks.

US Warnings Ignored

US Representatives Brad Wenstrup and Raja Krishnamoorthy stated the firm “has sponsored events with China’s military, reportedly stolen U.S. IP, and jointly operated genetic collection sites with China’s military”. The Pentagon linked it to assisting the People’s Liberation Army.
