Mail Online columnist Dan Hodges has launched a devastating attack on Sir Keir Starmer, declaring that while Peter Mandelson may have betrayed Britain, it is the Prime Minister who is truly guilty of putting national security at risk by ignoring glaring red flags and rushing the disgraced peer’s appointment as US ambassador.

Starmer’s Lies, Hypocrisy and Sordid Appointment

Hodges writes that Starmer told the House of Commons “full due process was followed” – a claim now exposed as completely false. He promised transparency, an end to cronyism and to take personal responsibility. Instead, he has scapegoated officials while ignoring warnings about Mandelson’s links to Jeffrey Epstein, Russia and China.

The Greatest National Security Scandal Since the Cold War

Hodges says the scandal now ranks alongside Profumo in the 1960s and the Cambridge spy scandals. British security chiefs had concerns about Mandelson for years, including being targeted by Soviet and later Russian intelligence. These warnings were communicated to Starmer’s team in 2023 – over a year before he entered Downing Street.

Red Flags Starmer Chose to Ignore

The Foreign Office mounted a rearguard action against the appointment. Representations were made to Morgan McSweeney. US security officials raised concerns. The Cabinet Office Due Diligence Checklist presented to Starmer raised Epstein, Russia and China links. Yet Starmer pushed ahead anyway, against the formal objection of UK Security Vetting.
