Summary: A blistering intervention from Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has laid bare what many voters already feel. Britain is drifting under a Prime Minister who holds the title but not the authority. Just 18 months into a huge Labour majority, Keir Starmer is facing resignations, chaos, U-turns and international embarrassment. The question is no longer whether mistakes were made, but whether the country is actually being governed at all.
Starmer Has the Job but Not the Power
Writing in The Telegraph, Kemi Badenoch delivers a simple but devastating verdict. This country cannot be governed by a Prime Minister in name only.
In just 18 months, Keir Starmer has lost his second chief of staff and his fourth director of communications. His own party leader in Scotland has openly called for him to resign. This is not a government settling in. It is a leadership unravelling in real time.
Mistakes happen in every job. Badenoch’s point is sharper than that. The real test is whether a leader takes control afterwards. Starmer has not. He has failed to rebuild authority, failed to impose discipline, and failed to show where the country is actually heading.

Badenoch argues that strong prime ministers govern from values and conviction. Starmer appears to govern from paperwork and process. Beyond international legal frameworks and more bureaucracy, it is still unclear what he actually believes in.
That weakness was exposed on the world stage during his visit to China. Starmer arrived without a clear agenda, hoping goodwill would do the work for him. Instead, he was publicly humiliated, even being physically pushed aside. It was embarrassing for Britain, regardless of party politics.
After returning home, Starmer talked tough about raising the case of pro-democracy campaigner Jimmy Lai. Days later, China sentenced Lai to 20 years in prison. The message could not have been clearer.
Chaos at Home and Cowardice in Parliament
Labour’s huge Commons majority has not produced strength. It has produced complacency. With 404 MPs, Labour has no incentive to act in the national interest when self-interest comes first.
Badenoch highlights Labour’s decision to increase welfare spending rather than pursue even modest restraint. Governing means making hard choices and accepting you will be unpopular. Labour has shown it is unwilling to do either.
Ministerial resignations, scandals and constant U-turns have become routine. Britain is not being governed with purpose. It is drifting, managed badly, day by day.
The Elephant in the Room
The uncomfortable truth is this. A Prime Minister without authority is worse than no Prime Minister at all. While Labour argues internally and protects careers, ordinary working people pay the price through higher bills, weaker borders and a country that looks smaller abroad.
Badenoch’s warning cuts through the noise. Britain needs leadership, not process. Conviction, not committees. Right now, it has neither.

Have your say
Starmer ‘runs’, or rather RUINS this country, for one community only : HIS PALS IN DAVOS, his Globalist puppeteers, the ones who pull his political stings, and certainly NOT for the people of the UK. He should never have been allowed anywhere near a Government post, let alone the leadership of this country !
Your reaction
I have said it before, Starmer is not a politician and never will be not as long as his backside points downwards. He is an international embarrassment!
