Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has faced accusations of racism from the Green Party after proposing a total ban on all public face coverings, including burkas and balaclavas, according to the Daily Express. The policy announcement has ignited a fierce national debate over civic integration, public safety, and personal freedoms.

Speaking on the newly unveiled policy, Mr Farage insisted that a functional democratic society relies on mutual visibility and trust. Under the proposed measures, a Reform UK government would outlaw full-face coverings in public spaces across Britain, aligning the country with several European neighbours that have enacted similar restrictions.

Supporters of the plan have pointed to rising street crime, intimidation by masked groups, and ongoing difficulties faced by police and CCTV operators in identifying suspects. However, the proposal immediately drew sharp condemnation from political opponents.

People are angry about not being able to afford to put their heating on, their food shop getting more expensive and seeing the unfairness of a broken immigration system that fails everyone within it. Telling women what they can and can’t wear won’t fix those things. But targeting Muslim women is what we’d expect from a racist party that has no actual plan to make life better for people.

— Hannah Spencer, Green Party MP for Gorton and Denton, Daily Express

  • Nigel Farage proposed a ban on all full-face coverings, including religious items and balaclavas.
  • The policy aims to enhance public safety, civic integration, and suspect identification.
  • Green MP Hannah Spencer accused Reform UK of racism and targeting Muslim women.
  • Proponents argue the rule mirrors existing legislation in France, Belgium, Denmark, and Switzerland.

The row underscores growing polarization over law, order, and cultural integration on Britain’s streets as political parties stake out their positions ahead of future electoral contests.
